Quetiapine fumarate (pronounced /kwɨˈtaɪ.əpiːn/ kwi-TYE-ə-peen), marketed by AstraZeneca as Seroquel or SeroquelXR and by Orion Pharma as Ketipinor, is an atypical antipsychotic used in the management of schizophrenia, bipolar I mania, bipolar II depression, bipolar I depression, and used off-label for a variety of other purposes, including insomnia and anxiety disorders.

The annual sales are an approx. 4,7 $ thousand millions worldwide and 2,9 $ thousand millions in the United States . The American patent, which was made responsible for expiring in 2011, accepted an extension of exclusive rights of paediatrics which pushed its expiration until March 26th, 2012 ; however, in Canada it has already expired. Several pharmaceutical companies make now generic versions of Quetiapine.

Precautions

Say to your doctor before taking Seroquel, if to you:

is allergic in any medicines;
have problems of the heart and/or low blood pressure;
or had the knack;
have problems with your circulation;
problems of liver;
diabetes or high glycemia;
had never had a seizure (the crisis);
is pregnant or feeding the breast.
